Open Call Exhibition: Resilience
Open Call Exhibition: Resilience
Hartlepool Art Gallery invites artists to explore the multifaceted concept of resilience in our upcoming spring 2026 exhibition, with one winning artist additionally being selected for a solo exhibition in the autumn of 2026.
Inspired by the 100th anniversary of the 1926 General Strike, we seek artworks that capture resilience in its broadest sense. We’re looking for works that speak to endurance, adaptation, and strength in the face of challenge.
Resilience can manifest in countless ways:
- Personal survival through adversity
- Community bonds that sustain us
- Environmental adaptation
- Psychological recovery
- Technological innovation
- Cultural preservation
- Overcoming systemic barriers
While drawing inspiration from the historical solidarity of workers during the General Strike, we welcome interpretations of resilience that reach far beyond this specific historical moment.
One of the featured artists will also be selected for a solo exhibition in the autumn of 2026; the winner will have the exciting opportunity to create new work in response to items in the historic collection of Hartlepool Museum and Art Gallery.
Open to all flat art, in any medium, that can be wall mounted.
