In addition to the established creative practice that Tony Charles has developed over the last twenty something years, he has also gained valuable curating experience due to his part in setting up a well-respected contemporary art gallery in Middlesbrough.

The opportunity to curate the work of the reputable practitioners associated with The Northern School of Art is an interesting challenge in terms of how the diversity of the works can be presented in conversation with each other within the unique setting of Hartlepool gallery.

Photography, painting, sculpture and graphic design are combined in this exhibition in an attempt to form a coherent visual alignment that also brings some conceptual connections between the varying practices into view.
