Kitsch Rodeo Suit by Bettie Hope

Bettie Hope (b.1994)

Kitsch Rodeo Suit

Digitally printed organic cotton satin, hand embroidered with embroidery thread, beads and sequins.

2022

This rodeo suit was created by artist Bettie Hope and co-produced with women from a regional refugee and asylum seeker group in response to Alice Hawkins’ exhibition The Female Gaze: Revisited.

Bettie Hope is a surface designer from Hartlepool whose provocative work challenges political and social norms.

Bettie took elements of Hawkins’ fashion work and interest in Americana to create a final textile piece in the form of a western rodeo suit. The design elements were made with a range of techniques including collage, needlework and embroidery.
